Biomarker qualification
The FNIH SV2A PET Project
Synapse loss is considered an optimal biomarker of brain integrity and cognitive function, correlating with cognitive decline regardless of a drug's mechanism of action. The FNIH Biomarkers Consortium selected [¹⁸F]SynVesT-1 for its SV2A PET Project, using post-mortem immuno-electron microscopy and immunoassay to confirm what the PET signal measures — establishing SV2A PET as a monitoring and pharmacodynamic biomarker for neurodegenerative drug development.
